Ravensdown Appoints New CEO Greg Campbell | Stuff.co.nz

Fertiliser company Ravensdown has a new chief executive, former Ngai Tahu Holdings head Greg Campbell.

Chairman of the Australasian farmer-owned co-operative, Bill McLeod, said Campbell brought significant international experience as a chief executive, and company director experience including with PGG Wrightson.

Campbell, who was chief executive at Ngai Tahu, replaces long-serving Ravensdown chief executive Rodney Green.

Campbell said the agricultural sector was the pillar of New Zealand's economic prosperity. A challenge ahead was to expand the sector in line with government goals, while responding to increasing concerns about the environment. Managing soil, water and air sustainably required all sections of the industry to work together, he said.

"Science and technology and the knowledge and experience of the team at Ravensdown are the way ahead, but it will be a challenge. I believe that if you support and empower people, you will see the best in them."

Campbell said the co-operative structure of Ravensdown appealed to him, as it was not driven by share price or short-term focus.

"Essentially the profits are returned to our owners and customers. We are able to invest in products and services that will underpin the company, our owners' businesses and the future of New Zealand agriculture."
